How to Replace the Fuel Filter on a Makita Cut-Off Saw

The fuel filter attaches to a length of fuel line inside the fuel tank. The filter removes any dirt or debris that might be in the fuel (or the tank). The passages in the carburetor are very small, and it does not take much dirt or debris to clog them. If the passages in the carburetor become clogged, the performance of the saw will be affected and the engine may not receive enough fuel to run. The fuel filter should be inspected often, and replaced yearly (or more frequently) depending on its condition.

Let's get started.

REMOVING THE FUEL FILTER   1. Remove the fuel filter.

a. Remove the fuel tank cap.

b. Use a (homemade) wire hook to pull the fuel line (and filter) from the tank opening.

c. Squeeze the tabs of the metal retaining clamp together and slide the clamp away from the fuel filter.

d. Remove the fuel filter from the fuel line.

INSTALLING THE NEW FUEL FILTER

  2. Install the fuel filter.

a. Install the retaining clamp onto the fuel line (if not already installed).

b. Install the new fuel filter onto the fuel line.

c. Secure the fuel filter to the fuel line with the retaining clamp.

d. Tuck the fuel line (and filter) back inside the fuel tank.

e. Reinstall the fuel tank cap.
