How to Replace the Fixed Casters on a Weber Grill

Finish Nailer Repair - Replacing the Driver Guide (Ridgid Part # 79004001022)
replacing the oil pickup spring on a chainsaw

Your barbeque has four casters that make it easy to wheel around your patio or deck. Two of the casters have locks (so you can make your grill stay put while you use it). The other two casters are fixed (and cannot be locked). When replacing the casters, make sure you order the correct style. The casters are made of plastic with a steel post. The post fits into a plastic insert that attaches to the grill's leg. The casters can break, especially if they are wheeled over uneven concrete.

Let's get started.

REMOVING THE FIXED CASTER(S)   1. Raise the grill.

a. Assemble a small stack of lumber to approximately 8 inches in height (scrap segments of 2 x 4 are ideal for this).

b. Lift one side of the grill (the side you will be repairing) and carefully position the frame of the grill on the stacked lumber.   2. Remove the caster.

a. Position the blade of a large screwdriver against the lip of the plastic insert (above the caster).

b. Tap the screwdriver with a rubber mallet to dislodge the plastic insert from the grill base.

c. Remove the plastic insert and caster from the grill.   INSTALLING THE NEW FIXED CASTER   3. Install the new plastic insert.

a. Align the new plastic insert with the opening on the bottom of the grill’s leg assembly.

b. Use a rubber mallet to tap the plastic insert into the leg until the square lip of the insert is seated fully against the leg.

c. Install the post of the new caster into the plastic insert.

d. Firmly press the post into the plastic insert to seat both components in the leg assembly.   REASSEMBLING THE UNIT   4. Lower the grill.

a. Carefully lift the grill away from the stacked lumber and reposition it safely on the ground.
