How to replace the fuel tank grommet on an Echo trimmer The Facts

String trimmer out of whack? It's time to face the fix. Whether you are a legendary landscaper or a weekend weed whacker, eReplacementParts.com provides the parts, procedures and facts you need to fearlessly fix what fails you.

The fuel line grommet creates a seal between the fuel lines and the fuel tank. Because it is made of rubber, the grommet will eventually deteriorate and crack. When this happens, you may notice fuel leaking from the top of the tank. Replacing the grommet is easy to do, especially when you follow the steps below.

This article provides step-by-step instructions for removing and installing the fuel line grommet on an Echo trimmer (model SRM-225).

Let's get started.

Use a screwdriver (as needed) to press and seat the grommet into the ridge on the fuel tank.

Seat the grommet in the tank

REASSEMBLING THE UNIT [top] 8. Reinstall the fuel lines.

One (or more) of the existing fuel lines may already contain tapered ends.

 Tapered lines for easy installation

Use wire cutters or scissors to cut similar angles (tapers) on the ends of the remaining fuel lines. (Tapered endings allow the lines to slide more easily into the new grommet.)

Cut the ends of the lines

Lightly coat the ends of the fuel lines with 2-cycle engine oil.

Lubricate the ends of the lines

Insert the FUEL VENT LINE into the grommet and feed any excess (slack) line into the fuel tank.

Use wire cutters or scissors to remove the angle that was added earlier. (The tube needs to be squarely cut to install the fuel filter.)

 Cut the line square

Slide the FUEL LINE CLIP over the fuel line and hold the clip approximately 1/4 of an inch from the end of the tube.

 Install the metal clip

Install the fuel filter onto the end of the fuel line. The ring clip should expand slightly to accommodate the flared connection, and then tighten around the narrower portion of the fitting. Perform this step in one continuous motion. If the ring clip slides backwards (further onto the onto the fuel line), reposition the clip and start again.
