Question: Ignition Coil Faulty

I have an MTD Yard Machines 8HP snowblower that quit on me shortly after starting. After trying again and having no luck, I tried to rule out all causes for the failure -- stale gas, line blockage, spark plug, etc. I think that the Tecumseh ignition coil is faulty but I'm having two problems. First, is there a way to test this coil so that I don't have to buy a new one? Second, I can't seem to find the part number anywhere -- not in the manual, not on the part itself, nowhere. If I had to order a new coil, I'll need this because all the ones I've seen online so far are similar but not exactly like mine. I think the closest is a replacement for the TECUMSEH 34443A but the hose looks different. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
