This is an OEM part. The Control Plate Spring is made of metal and is used in all tilt head style mixers and many 5 quart bowl lift style mixers. The Spring keeps tension on the Control Plate, part number W10068260, so that it can maintain the speeds of the mixer. The Spring also connects to the Speed Control Lever. If the spring becomes stretched out, or if the hook breaks off, it needs to be replaced.
