Discussion for the Skil 5860 (F012586099) Circular Saw
Hello, I'm new to the forum so forgive me if I get something wrong.
I've have to remove the armature from a 5860 Type 2 saw and I'm having a difficult time. It seems like it's pressed in, but I'm not sure and I don't want to break anything. Anyone ever take one of these out? If so is it just pressed in? If not what do you have to do to get it out?
A quick and dirty method of removal is as follows.
1) with the armature facing the ground grasp in jaws of vice. Do not over tighten vice, or damage to armature may occur. Use 2 pry-bars or large wrenches to pry body upwards until armature is free, similar to removing a pressed on bearing.
2) to press in new armature insert into body threads on armature. Shaft will clear bearing enough to allow end nut to grab threads. Slowly tighten end nut drawing armature shaft into bearing.
