Question: Weedeater

1201507

I would like to know if this part is feed my winding string around a spool or is it feed my cut strips of string insert into head. Thanks
WJA
Reply: Weedeater

WJA

Hello 1201507,

The part number 308042002 Spool Retainer (or bumper knob) is the part you tap on the ground to advance the string. There is usually a blade in the guard that will cut the line to the correct length after it has been advanced.

Hope this helps,

Question: RY34441 Timing Belt

Lowell

Do you have to remove the flywheel to change the timing belt?
I have a Ryobi RY34441 4 Cycle Gas String Trimmer That is not very old that is pouring oil into the carb from a check valve coming from the rocker arm cover that is choking down the motor and will barely run . There are two one way check valves on this unit (the other from the Crank Case reservoir to the top of the rocker arm cover) What would cause oil to pour out of the check valve into the carburetor. I am assuming the check valve is acting as a pcv valve and only air is supposed to go into the carb. Both check valves seem to be working but I replaced them anyway to no avail. I paid $200 for this weed eater and am having a hard time believing that it is junk. The People who repair lawn trimmers around my town won't even talk to me about Ryobis much less work on them. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

WJA

Hello 1162680,

I am having a difficult time trying to figure out your problem also. This may be way to simple . But the Ryobi RY334441 trimmer needs to be stored horizontally when not in use. It cannot be hung up vertically or the oil will go where it is not supposed to go. Just an idea for you.

cam belt keeps jumping off the cam gear. what do I do? replace the belt?

WJA

Hello scttgrnly,

It sounds as if the 901656002 timing belt may be worn and stretched out. Try replacing it and hopefully that should take care of your problem.

Good luck,

RobertC
Question: Is The Cam Gear Available?

RobertC

I guess I ran mine too hard and it overheated, the cam gear got hot and melted on the shaft. This caused the timing belt to fall off. As the unit cooled down the gear set up at an angle. And yes it had oil in it when this happened.
WJA
Reply: Is The Cam Gear Available?

WJA

Hello RobertC,

According to the parts diagram the only way you can purchase the cam gear is by getting the complete 309921010 short block assembly.

$144.08 for a short block assembly just to fix a plastic cam gear, yeah right. Looks like this trimmer is a boat anchor now, it figures.

The timing belt came off my RY34441 and when I replaced it I DID NOT know how to set the timing so it does not run very good. How do I set it properly. Jaypolk

Hello Jaypolk,

According to our tech you bring the piston to top dead center and the mark on the cam gear should be straight down.

Hello helvas,

The oil pan is on page B , item number 48. It is part number 518924002. You will probably want to replace the gasket also, part number 570709002.

Hope this helps,

Is there a high speed carb adjustment on the 4 cycle engine like you find on a 2 cycle. The engine starts ok but will not achieve full power.
I did see the carb cleaning video but have not cleaned it yet.

Reply: Ryobi 4 Cycle Engine Carb Adjust...

UtahAV

There should be three adjustments, the hi and low speed needles and the idle adjustment. Your best bet is to take the tool to a shop if it needs adjustment. There will be special tools need to make the adjustments on the carb. The EPA now requires that a "certified" repairman make carb adjustments in order to keep emissions in tune with EPA guidelines. It isn't a bad idea to have a tech adjust it anyway as a carb set too lean can destroy an engine with just a few minutes of use.

I hope this helps,

mowerman 33 I have the same problem my timing belt just came off the upper gear so when I put it back on it doesen't run very good and I have asked for some advice aand received none but since I have a picture of the new belt I see some markings on the belt and I know there is a mark on the upper gear I am going to match them up and see if it works for me. jaypolk

Hello Jaypolk,

According to our tech you bring the piston to top dead center and the mark on the cam gear should be straight down.

Hello uriah,

If you go the to this link, RY344421 & RY34441. Then look at page 6, item number 16, part number 309562001. Hopefully that is the part you are looking for.

a nice machine as all ryobis but useless because the only bump head that works on one is what came with it so when is wore out your stuck with a 2000.00 dollar useless piece. the home depot in oak ridge, tn. is the worst ever they dont sell parts for thelawn equipment they sell, and i blame ryobi since they are an exclusive ryobi dealer. i own 12 diffent ryobi tools but this trimmer has been the worst buy of my life. why would you sell a machine that you cant buy a common part for that will fit. ryobi you really blew it on this one

Like everyone else I wanted the best tool for the least investment so I purchased a new Ryobi RY30544 Trimmer. Any company that would build a product that has non rebuildable component parts such as carburators should be band from the sales of their products in the US. Please Listen to Me!!! Ryobi products are built to be sold not used.

Mlatore,
I agree that Ryobi is cheap and dangerous (experience from a tablesaw). However in your particular case you can't complain too much. A new carburetor is less than $40. I took one apart because it had no power and found no other cause. There is very little to rebuild and difficult to put back together to make everything fit because of springs and dual gaskets. Probably better for you to spend $37 for a new carb or buy another trimmer.
