Questions & Answers for Starter Asm-recoil

How do you rewind the removable coil spring? I took it apart to replace the rope and the spring SPRUNG out! I can see where one end hooks onto the body part, but how does the other end hook on to the removable piece? And IF I were to buy a new one, if it is wound around the removable piece, how does the other end engage the motor when you slide the new piece on? The electric start DOES work, but I wouldn't mind having the recoil as well!!

Snowblower starter rope broke, handle came off in my hand rest of rope wound inside
1. Loosened the 3 nuts securing the assembly to the snowblower. (had to use some WD-40 and a 5/16 wrench to get started).
2. Removed the old assembly.
3. Attached new assembly to the snowblower.
4. Returned and tightened the 3 nuts.
Very simple, whole assembly was ready to go!

I initially shredded the rope trying to start the snowblower over and over again.
I initially just ordered a new rope because I had shredded the rope trying to start the engine after leaving the tank full of gasoline from last winter. When I removed the assembly to install the new rope, the spring sprung. When I couldn't figure out how to reinstall the spring, I had to order the complete recoil starter assembly. I replaced the entire recoil starter assembly in a matter of minutes and then added Sea Foam to break down the varnish, waited an hour for it to do it's thing and then went through the steps to start the engine. After four or five attempts I successfully ran the engine until all the gas burned up. P.S. - I'm not a mechanic, just a DYI kind of guy.

  • It was an easy repair!
The starter replacement fit according to the manufacturer charts and fit perfectly. Appreciate the help in getting the parts i need when repairs are required. Thanks!

Great part - worked as expected
Easy install. Started up on first pull. Would like to suggest that you offer the 3 screws that are used for this. Not a handy person and was afraid the old screws would be damaged coming out since they were so rusty. They ended up coming out clean and reused. Would have purchased new screws with this if I knew what I needed.

    Perfect Replacement
The part I received for my snowblower was an exact match for the original broken part. I was able to install it in about 5 minutes and my snowblower was up and running again. Also, I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly I received the part. I thought it might be more than a week or so to get it but it came in just a few days. Very satisfied with my experience with ereplacementparts.com.

    It works like the original
I tried to replace the rope on the old starter and when I did, the spring came out. Rather than trying to rewind the spring, I ordered a new starter assembly. I got it within a few days after ordering it and it works just like the original for a Yard Machine 24" snowblower.
