I have been asked that many times. But Porter Cable does not provide a kit to change the 637 Type 1 Variable Speed Tiger Saw. To changed it to a quick change blade system.
Question: Replacement Switch
The switch has broken on my tiger saw and i am looking for a direct replacement which your site says is discontinued. What can i use for a replacement?
Reply: Replacement Switch
When the manufacture stopped supplying the 883498 Switch and Triac (120 Volt), they did not replace it with another switch. They did sell thousands of those tiger saws. You may be able to keep searching for one one line and locate one.
Question: Porter Cable 637 Tiger Saw - Fix...
I'm fond of the 637s, I've had one for many years. Indestructible. I bragged about it to a friend and then got him one on ebay, but it raps and has a lot of end-play (you can move blade in and out 1/4"). What parts are at fault and are they impossible to replace?

Sounds like the wobble drive has come loose. You'll have to disassemble the unit to see what all is wrong with it.Keep in mind that saw is a bit old and a there are not a many parts available.Hope that helps.Good luck.
i have a variable speed saw sall the trigger switch is bad model of swicth is 27-99x 5 wire 115 volt 3.5 to 12 amp is the 883498 the replacement
Below is a list of the tools that the 883468 switch is used in. If one of them is the model number of your saw then it will work just fine.
Hope this helps,

Question: Chuck Clamp Repairs
Porter Cable model 637 Type 2 Recip. saw. S/N 040407
After watching the online video I ordered the suggested parts needed to repair my chuck.
I also phoned and spoke with one of your technicians. I explained that I did not see a clamp pin, nor retainers. I was told that these were the parts I needed even though I had Blade Clamp 847420 and not the knurled sleeve as shown in the video.
I think I have the wrong parts. Please advise.
Question: 637 Tiger Saw Drive Shaft Replac...
The drive shaft broke inside the bearing that's in the the wobble plate. I have removed the intermediate housing and
now it looks like all I have to do is pull off bearing # 855284
to access the nut beneath it then remove the nut holding the
shaft on the other side of the wobble plate. Are the bearings in the intermediate housing and wobble plate simply pressed on?
Is there anything else I should know on how to remove the shaft from these bearings? Thank You.
Reply: 637 Tiger Saw Drive Shaft Replac...
Yes, the bearings are pressed. You should be able to remove them with either a bearing puller or a bearing press.
I hope this helps with your repair!
Question: Blade Attach
can a 637 type 2 be retrofitted with a modern twist attachment head (quick change) rather than the old "tighten with a hex key and allen wrench.
Reply: Blade Attach
Unfortunately it cannot. The shaft is totally different and not interchangeable between the models.
Question: Porter Cable 637 Type 1 Reciproc...
The Porter Cable model 637 VS Tiger reciprocating saw blade does not move I believe it could be repated to part # 141 drive shaft as gears all look in very good shape. As fire up motor and gears turn the blade housing unit does not move. Any idea as if my assertions could be correct? Also, any help in getting this part assembly apart and replaced would be appreciated. Thanks:confused:
