Shaft broke during prolonged heavy use when demolishing a ceiling.
The rubber boot was stuck pretty well to the housing so I cut it loose rather than fuss with it. It was well worn anyway and the cost of a new one was not that much. Remove the screws holding the clamshell head together, remove the broken shaft assembly arrange all the machine screws in order as you go as they vary. Install the new shaft assembly making sure the blade release lever is on the topside so it will be lifted by the external lever when the housing is reattached. Lubricate the shaft and the felt pad well before reassembling. Remove the two pieces at the front of the blade end so that the new boot will slide onto the saw. I used a water based lube on the housing for the next step as anything petroleum based could deteriorate the rubber. Next slide the boot on with a quarter turn down so that when you finish (with some difficulty) the outer lever will be able to protrude through the opening in the boot. Once engaged simply rotate the boot upward, it will pop into place, leaving the blade release lever exposed. Reattach the 2 front pieces, the one next to the front of the boot will require you to pull back on the boot a little to expose the screw hole. The fix was complete and my saw is as good as new.

This was the right part....The picture helped
I couldn't find my model of reciprocating saw listed but the picture looked right. Tech support took a while to answer, but told me that they didn't find my model of saw either. I had already ordered the part based on the picture and the measurements. It works great and installation was a breeze. Did the fix while watching TV. New saw, $90. Replacement shaft $27. Feeling of accomplishment, PRICELESS!
