This is a high-quality manufacturer-sourced part which is made for use with Kohler engines commonly installed on lawn and garden equipment. It helps to provide a tight seal for the crankcase. Over time it may wear out and begin to crack eventually requiring a replacement. For the exact location and the correct installation please refer to the appropriate diagrams of your model. 2. Used 14" (2) jaw puller and pulled flywheel and ignition coils.
3. Used very small seal remover slap hammer after drilling very small hole in old seal to bite.
4. Reinstalled new seal with liberal grease in back side so seal pressure spring would not pop out when driving in place.
5. Also replace crank case ventilation flat metal plate cover gasket due to website media drawing concern to additional failures in that area. No signs of leakage here. Precaution.
6. Due to entire area of oil leak covered by flywheel also used smoke machine to apply air pressure to complete engine block assembly and watch for hidden leaks per smoke escaping. (A cracked block or whatever). Note: Found this 4" plate to have double gaskets in place which might indicate a factory assemble change (quick fix) to eliminate an assemble line shut down. Noted remarks of the 4 bolts that come loose on this plate on internet. Chose newer grey ultimate silicone over factory gaskets. Have seen Ford and Chrysler use this Ultimate Permatex sealer for problem areas.
