The steering assembly on the wheel was completely worn out. We've used our riding mower heavily for over 10 years.
We were also changing the front Pivot Axle (ordered separately). We had to use our car jack to jack up the front of the mower - I have a mower jack, but that only picks up one side and we needed both front wheels off the ground. Then we had to remove the wheel on the side with the steering assembly, then the old steering assembly. There were 3 of us working on it - 2 senior females and 1 senior male. It was hard work for us, but we just took our time and got it done without any damages or injuries to ourselves or the mower. Some of the bolts are a little hard to get to - and you have to remove some other things from the front to get to the Pivot Axle - but it was worth it. It is now steering like a new mower once more. I mowed for 3 hours this morning and it worked great. Good to fix things yourself if you can.

Steering shaft gear got worn down and had to replace
I had to take off the deck and the transmission pulley gear to get a sawzall in to remove the screw holding the steering shaft to the frame. After this, I had to take apart the console to remove the shaft and gear. Parts were perfect and and replacement was quick. Greatly assisted by the schematics on the site.

Steering components worn. Nine years old.
Removing the old steering parts was no difficult. Getting some parts was a bit tight behind the engine. Had the tractor on jack stands so I could get under it. Downloaded the parts diagram and used it to reinstall the parts once they arrived. Centered the front wheels and steering wheel, tightened all parts and finished.

Along with the blade that was attached with the locking flange nut onto the snowblower attached easily!

All the parts I ordered were identical replacements. Quick Fix.
All the parts I ordered were brand new and exact replacements in kind that I wanted. I wish I would have ordered the slotted disc with the teeth in it as it turns out that was worn, too. I'll see how this goes for now and then probably go back and order that and maybe the steering shaft and gear as well.
