In my case, just the lever guard was needed. I took it off, and then compared all the parts to pictures online. Everything appeared to be in order, except one thing which was obviously wrong. There are 2 tabs that the notches on the trigger fit into. On mine, only half of one tab was intact and the rest had snapped off. This caused the lower trigger to feel like it had 0 pressure, while the deep scrub button on top worked just fine. For those experiencing this problem, give it a look. It's one Phillips screw holding the guard in place.
