Discussion for the Hitachi NR83A2 Full Head Framing Nailer
My guns nail depth adjuster is not working. I adjust it so far out, the pushing lever grabs the nose and still does not work well. The gun is about 4 years old, so just wondering if there's anything I need to replace for it to work like new gun would.
I have had 0 success in finding the air plug that is appraently solf seperatley. Does anyone know where i can find the air plug attachment to connect the compressor? Thanks guys.
Could be really dry inside. Take cap off....look at the cylinder....might have o-ring build up in there. Clean - re-lube. If not, run an o-ring kit through it. Keep it well lubed. Help span the life a bit.

Freezing weather? Condensation from air might be building up. I found that WD40 helps.

You might have a bad bumper. same happened to me. these nail guns are thirsty so keep the oil to them.
Take the two track bolts off at the nose and the ones holding it down by the fitting. Slide track off. Take your bolt, place it through the ribbon spring hole.....screw it in just a bit....place the pin through the spring....place feeder on...then slide track back on. People usually take the bolt out of the nose, not knowing the feeder spring is attached to the bolt. Boooya.
I have to replace the cylinder ring on this nail gun, but since it was ripped i'm not sure where it goes on the cylinder. I think it goes over where the small holes are?
Hi, Yes it goes over the holes and is a cylinder check valve for return air. Nail guns use low pressure to pull the piston driver assembly back up to the top of the cylinder and this check valve helps it do that. Hope this helps.
The piston driver on my tool does not retract like it should when bump firing the tool. It hangs up until I release the trigger, then retracts as norma. It acts like a sequential fire tool. Something weird in the exhaust system? Any ideas? I just cleaned the tool and replaced all rings and packings. Thanks, Mike.
[QUOTE=americantoolman;5093]The piston driver on my tool does not retract like it should when bump firing the tool. While holding the trigger and pressing to wood it fires but hangs up on return. If I fire like a sequential fire tool pulling the trigger each time it fires and retracts like normal.
I just cleaned the tool and replaced all o rings and packings. Changed out cylinder seal and rechecked trigger parts. Now I'm begining to swap out parts - process of elimination. Anybody seen this before? Any ideas? Thanks, Mike." Thanks, mike.

Hi Mike,
I am stumped with your problem as well. I can't figure why the gun would fire OK sequentially but not while bumping. Many issues with nail gun pistons not returning are caused by the trigger valve. You might want to check there for bad o-rings or maybe debris from worn part elsewhere in the gun.
Sorry I can't be more help. Let us know how it turns out.
Good Luck!

Finally figured it out. Simple really. The adjustable screw on the push lever was too far out, eventhough it was just short of the valve bushing it would not allow the plunger to move out enough to fully cycle the tool. I guess the push lever was out of play while firing sequentually.

Good to hear that it was nothing serious. I hadn't though of that. Makes sense though.
Thanks for letting us all know what the solution was!
I replaced the drive piston on my Hitachi framing nailer and now when I hook up the air, it just engages the piston and passes air. It doesn't cycle. Anyone got any ideas?
Hey AntV,
aside from taking it back apart and reassembling a few times..:) try holding down the trigger with the safety engaged.[no nails and pressing down on some wood]and then hook the air back up..this is an old repair trick from the factory techs..also make sure your o-rings are lubed of course..
hope this helps...
