Discussion for the Hitachi C8FB2 8-1/2" Twin Rail Sliding Compound Miter Saw
My beloved Hitachi C8FB2 saw had sat dormant in my mother's garage for many years. Moving to a new house, I finally had some room in the garage to clean it up and give it a proper bench to work off of. I ordered new bushings, as well as a new switch from this website. I removed the old bushings, replaced them with the new ones and then replaced the switch. I now have a new problem. When plugged in, the saw makes a humming sounds, similar to an electric "brown out", but it will turn when the switch is activated. I thought I might have goofed on the polarity, but much to my surprise, if I reverse it, the saw runs anytime it is plugged in. I'm guessing the starter capacitor needs replaced, but failing that, I would appreciate any help offered!
Hi, The C8FB2 doesn't have a starter capacitor as it has a gear reduction unit in it and doesn't need one.I do believe you have the wiring hooked up wrong and have it hooked up so as to when the switch is turned on its also activating the motor brake. This is the humming you link removed Hitachi and see if they can email you the wiring chart for the tool.Good luck.

To remove the stator you will need to start by tearing down the motor down to the point that you have the armature removed. From this point you will remove the fan guide and then the two screws that secure the stator to the housing.
I am having a similar problem, or maybe the same one. When I try to go to one of my presets ie. 90, 45, etc. My saw used to lock in and stay put now I am finding that after I go to one of my presets and lock in I can still move my blade a degree or even more and my preset is no longer a good lock and I have got to use my square every time to set the angle. Up until recently, when I went to a preset, it was perfect and my blade would stay locked in now it is sloppy. What can I do to fix this problem?

Hello,
A simple fix might be just replacing the spring and ball, the spring can lose its tension and the ball can wear after a while. Here is a link to the part numbers, spring, and ball. While you are there and you have the machine apart, clean the indents in the base assembly they can become pitted and dirty. You also want to replace the liner, here is a link to that part number, liner. This also will wear and make it harder to move the saw head.
I'm replacing armature bearings on my C8FB2 and I see that the non-fan end bearing shows a part next to it in the diagram (#126) as "bearing lock". What is it and do I need it? I've already pulled the old bearings and pressed the new ones on and I can't figure out where the "bearing lock" would go. Thanks
I need to change the ball bushing for the slide rail. There is a split ring at each end of the bushing that looks like a snap ring but has no way to remove it. Is it part of the bushing? Will it press out with the bushing?
I am replacing a motor bearing. The old one fried and the inner race is still pressed on to the motor shaft. I tried a small puller to remove it, but it is very stubborn. A larger puller will not fit on this small shaft. I have the new bearing, but i am stuck at this point.
A torch? Hammer?
Any suggestions?
Hey tuck-point,
A bearing splitter is the best thing to use..[sometimes along with a hydraulic or arbor press!] UGH..:) If you have a bench vise available you can attempt to clamp the inner race tightly and tap on the end of the armature shaft with a punch and hammer to remove it enough to get the puller jaws behind it..[have someone support the armature as you tap it as not to have it fall out or get damaged..].. Be careful..and if in doubt.. a friendly neighborhood repair shop can help you out..[hey.. that rhymes..]:p
Hope this helps..?

hi another option that we use is to grind two flats on the stuck bearing sleeve ,this then allows you to put in a vice and ,usualy if you then turn the armaure the sleeve splits and slids off !!

I'll try the grinding technique tonight, and see if I can spin it off.
If that doesn't work. I'll grind it down untill I can split it.
Hey the saw was free, If a 10.00 bearing is all it needs, I cannot compain too much!!
Thanks everyone.
why oh why did they quit making this absolutely GREAT saw?
I bought mine in 1990 and used it for years before I had to
replace the cord....now it is dead in water and I want to fix
but guess I'm out of my league as I thought I could just buy
a motor....
