Found that mfg. had overtightened the lock nut such that the phillips head in the retaining bolt stripped. Had to drill out the head of the screw in order to remove the special shoulder bolt. After that, the repair was easy. I ordered a new special bolt, but in order to use the stand right away, I bought a 7mm shoulder bolt of the similar length. Should work OK, but not for the long term.
