Needed a flat screw driver to release tabs. Installed new filter cage. Just make sure filter cage stopper is in correct orientation. (It's marked to top) Have to purchase a newer style filter. Works great! Saved me from buying a new shop vac. Thank you eraplacement parts. The filter cage was an obsolete part as per Ridgid web site. Looked all over. This was the only place I found the needed part.

1. Opened vacuum.
2. Inspected effort required.
3. Made a note to myself to remember to put the float in before I install the new cage.
4. Removed broken cage.
5. Installed new cage.
6. Realized I forgot to install the float before I installed the new cage (see step 3).
7. Removed new cage without breaking it.
8. Inserted float into new cage.
9. Reassembled vacuum with all parts where they should be.
10. Repair successful. Did the happy dance.

Just placed the new cage onto the motor base with the three tabs lined up with the three slots, and pushed the cage onto the base. With the new style stem on the cage, the filter nut isn't needed, the filter just slides over the cage and pops onto the larger tip on the cage.

Simply remove the vacuum top, remove the cage and filter, then put the new ones back in.

Remove the old cage with a flat head screwdriver snapped a new one in and put on the new filter. The new replacement filter cage requires no filter, nut to hold the filter on,pretty slick.

This was one of the easiest repairs I've ever made. Simply pop the old one off, a common/flat-head screwdriver could be helpful but not necessary. The new one snaps in. That's it! Easy Peasy!
