This replacement dust shroud is an authentic OEM part which is designed for use with DeWALT planers. Fan-assisted chip ejection vacuums chip off of the cutter head and exhaust them out of the machine. This part helps to direct dust and trimmings away from a user. Always wear eye protection and a dust mask if necessary. Note, this high-quality dust shroud which is made of a durable plastic material and is sold individually. Check the owners manual and the diagrams of your specific model for the correct installation and application. The shroud is secured by three thumb screws which are sold separately. No tools would be needed to replace this part.

The tongue and groove joint plier was used to hold the fan and lock the shaft while tightening the lock nut that secures it. In retrospect, and automotive oil filter wrench (The type that uses a rubber strap to hold the filter) would do a better job without risking damage to the fan.
I must note that the replacement fan housing is slightly different than the original. There were no spring clips to hold the two halves together. It simplified the process and works as well as the original.

On reassembly, one of the red rod screws stripped out, but this happens about every other time you use them, so I always have several on hand. They are very cheaply made and if you tighten them above about 5 inch pounds they crack, pretty annoying, but they’re cheap to replace too . . .
Replaced the top using a T25 bit in a power drill makes opening and closing the unit faster
Was accumulating sawdust in the upper chamber of the planer.
