    Easier done than said
I needed to replace the saw drive belt of my RYOBI bench saw. After reading the previous reviews I expected some difficulty in replacing the belt but believed it was doable. When i attacked the job I decided to work from the SAW BLADE SIDE of the housing. After 6 or 7 hours of frustration over a couple days I reassessed my procedure and decided to replace the belt from the motor side of the housing. In less than one hour I had the new belt in place and reassembled into the bench saw. Too bad I didn’t have that little piece of information to start with. Bob Schultz

Belts replacement on Ryobi's BT 3000 table saw is very difficult. Little to no help online, nothing from Ryobi other than an exploded view of the saw. Found one hint online about using a small flat head screwdriver to gently wedge the new belts over the pulleys. It worked with the help of some WD-40. There is no ergonomic way to change the belts, it involves bending and stooping, not a fun way to spend several hours. You can't force the belts or you risk snapping them, you have to move them a fraction of an inch while turning the arbor pulley. The first belt is the hardest because it has to be leveraged all the way back on the arbor pulley. Second was easier as it only had to go on half way. Was very relieved when I turned on the power and the belts didn't come flying off.

Disassembled table saw housing and motor/blade arbor assembly.
Cleaned burned rubber elements from motor and arbor spools.
Struggled for 2 days with cheap aftermarket belts drive belts.
Gave up and threw cheap aftermarket drive belts in the trash.
Ordered OEM belts from e-replacement parts.
Called Ryobi tech support for tips.
Heated drive and driven spools with heat gun.
Heated drive belts in 150 degree hot water.
Worked the belts over the spools into place, twisting/pushing the belt while turning.
    Reassembled the saw.
Scolded the helpful neighbor for buying the cheap useless aftermarket belts.

    1. Took the saw apart
    2. Did some long-overdue deep cleaning (sawdust in little crevices)
    3. Lubed the innards according to the owners manual
    4. The belts were a little tricky: there's no way to change the distance between the motor and arbor. Since the belts and pulleys are grooved, getting the rearmost belt far enough back took a bit of wrestling.
    5. Put everything back together. Works great!

Soaked the belts in 150 degree F water
seated belt on the small drive pulley coming from the motor
spun the larger pulley mounted to the saw blade shaft, while pushing the belt back on the large, grooved pulley one groove at a time until the belt was in the final location. Repeated for the second belt.

Disassembled. Put new belts over the motor shaft and over blade drive. Started, bearings and shaft back into place. Could not get lined up until heated the belts with hair dryer. Angle guide shims must be in place before final reassembly. Flat shims can be added after assembly, just before tightening. Need about six hands to hold everything in place while heating belts. Did not take as much heat as I thought it might stretch the belts. Had to disassemble again just to get the angle guide shims in. Getting the belts lined up a trick as well.
