A trimmer I've used for well over 30 years in my yard.. This Spring upon its start up . It ran lousy. I first removed the primer cover and primer. I put them back on after I worked on the carburetor. I did the same thing with the cap and gasket.
A carb re-build can be tricky to accomplish. So here's how I made it easy for> me.
Took pix's with my cell through-out its dismantling. Carb cleaner purchased for internal passage cleaning. Then blew out the sprayed passages with compressed air. The carburetors reassembly was a piece of cake.{all my cell pix's did garner a great resolve} Reinstalled using all new internal parts from E replacement parts. (the only internet business to buy small engine parts from) Re-set its air/ fuel mixture needles to Echo specs. Trimmer fired right up. Tweaked its low & high speed needle's a second time. Re-Set its Idle screw a tad too. GT-2400 ran as good as new. What a difference in its power curve . Trimmer went from being a throw away to a heirloom. Immediately gave the trimmer to my daughter to use in her yard and went and bought me a brand new Echo curve shaft trimmer today. Don't know if the new echo will run as good as its predecessor. My new echo has a non-adjustable carb. I just may have made a mistake in giving my old yard pal away. Oh well . I know my daughter will enjoy her daddy's sweet running trimmer.
Echo Trimmer had become hard to start, wouldn't run consistently, and died often.

Removed engine from tube and replaced drive shaft.
Remove clutch drum cover and removed old clutch and installed new clutch.
Reinstalled tube to engine.
Connected throttle cable and ground wire.
Installed gear head spacer and cover blade and installed new speed feed head.
Started right up and ran like new.
Was a free trimmer so rebuilding it for my lawn care business made perfect sense. Spent $70 to have a $300 weed eater. ECHO ENGINES GO THE DISTANCE. just do maintenance and you can run them for years and years. One of mine is 12 years old and the other is 15 yrs old. Run them 6 days a week.
Very to Hard Start and Poor running when it did.

2. Lay out on a white towel with a shop light over head. The parts are hard to see.
3. Take detailed pics of carb disassembly. and lay parts out in order.
4. Spray carb cleaner in all jets. If its bad soak overnight in ultra sonic cleaner. You can get one from your local discount tool seller for $80.00 well worth the money.
5. Put back to together.
6. Follow manufactures adjustment procedure. If you have good compression and spark it will fire right up.
7. Only use non-ethanol gas premix. Trust me my equipment starts year after year after a good rebuild and only using premix going forward. Your carb diaphragms will last many season vs one. and 2 or 3 pulls to start.
Carburetor would not function, very old and parts dried out
