Question: Dead Batteries

Alan Gilburg

My battery part # is DW9027 with a charger DW9118. Neither are listed. I get other parts for the DW927 drill. Both batteries hold a charge for 5-10 minutes at best. Do I need to get a new charger if I get new batteries?

My problem too. But why pay $75 for a battery when a new drill with batteries can be had for less?
But I hate to just trash the drill.

Question: DeWalt 927 Drill Chuck

Ellen

We have two DeWalt 927 cordless drills with keyless chucks. Both chucks are jammed. We cannot open or close the chuck. We've tried following the instructions for removing the chuck, but can't get the chuck open as much as the instructions direct (1/4" or more). Can we still get a torx driver in to remove the screw? What size driver is needed (we'll have to buy one)? Any other suggestions as to how to solve the problem?

Hi Ellen,

The Torx driver needed is a T-20. You can find a T-20 driver at the following link...

http://www.ereplacementparts.com/t20-torx-driver-bit-p-205785.html

If you can get the driver in there and remove the screw you should be OK. After the screw is out try removing the chuck with the largest hex wrench that will fit in the chuck opening. If you can't break the chuck free with the smaller wrench then you might try using a pair of large adjustable pliers.

I hope this helps!

Question: Dewalt DW927 Nearly Dead

Handyman32

My old Dewalt DW927 is basically dead. When I press the trigger it won't work most of the time, but sometimes it will move a little. It has been getting worse until now. I used to be I could hit it with my hand to get it started, but that not longer works. The battery is fine. Any thoughts?

Hey Handyman32,
The first place you will want to check are the brush's in the motor..look for debris or wear..they are sold as an assembly..[brush and holder]..part # 603754-01..if they look ok your motor might be on its last leg...[there are several posts on this forum explaining in detail how to troubleshoot the motor and or switch..]
parts avail at ereplacementparts.com..
hope this helps..!

why in Gods name would anyone sell Ni-cd batteries with this kind of tool? this is old old old battery tech and they don't last. then the new battery cost you as much as the tool did in the first place. BAD CHOICE!!!
