Connecting Rod Assembly - N036518
Repair Difficulty:
Easy
Time Spent Repairing:

Tools Used:
Screwdriver, Socket set, Wrench Set, Allen wrench
The connecting rod broke at the crank bearing.
The two halves of the plastic cover have to be removed. This exposes the motor and compressor. The connecting rod is on top and easy to get to. I had to disconnect the air line to the tank then remove the compressor head to slide the cylinder, piston, and broken connecting rod out. Then an Allen Wrench removes the screw holding the crank bearing. Note; this is torqued VERY tight and is somewhat difficult to remove. The new parts came with a bearing so reassembly is a simple reversing of the removal. The head has two thin gaskets that have to be handled carefully. I hand cranked the compressor through several turns to see if anything was binding or rubbing. Nothing was, the new parts were an exact match of the old parts.
The replacement parts came with a surprisingly well written instruction sheet and that is my professional opinion because I used to write procedure and assembly manuals. Add to that the part from ereplacement parts was less expensive than the same part from other suppliers, this was an overall positive experience and my compressor is back up to pressure.

The compressor wouldn't build pressure.
I had disassembled the compressor earlier to discover the reason it wouldn't work. Upon arrival of the parts, I found all of the items that I had ordered were very well packed and accompanied by complete diagrams and instructions. This repair could not have gone any better! The order was processed faster than I had expected and the tracking of my order was extremely accurate. I will absolutely order parts again for any of my power tools as needed.

Not building pressure
I took a guess that the cylinder ring and cylinder where worn a little and I was getting blow-by.
When the kit arrived, it had an instruction manual that helped out doing the repair. I guessed right. The compressor is working like new now.

compressor was not building air.
Removed motor housing from pancake compressor tank. opened motor housing. unscrewed head on motor and rod assembly from motor. Replaced with new rod assembly and reconnected.
Very easy repair. Biggest problem was realigning the plastic motor housing together.
You definitely need a 7/32 bit for a socket set to remove the rod assembly.

  • Better than original
The cylinder was heavier duty than the original that came with the compressor. Fit without any problems and worked great.

    Parts were a life saver!
We have several of these old Craftsman compressors which we love because they don’t have the bulky tanks. They were getting worn out, but can’t buy them anymore so these two parts were like the only moving parts on the compressor. When they were replaced it was like new. We have two other of these compressors that we are going to repair after buying two more sets of these parts! Highly recommend!

Before taking my old Delta air compressor to the dump I decided to see if it was DIY fixable. It was. The repair video was great and made the repair simple.

30 min fix and my compressor has a new life
the shipping was a couple of days, swapping out the old was relatively easy. Seems OEM quality, I assume it is. Thanks EReplacementParts!

compressor working good now, I didn't need the entire assembly but too bad it's the only way I could buy it.
the second item I received did not turn out that good, #72811 D30139 the gasket kit shows 4 item including the RED ORING but was missing, I order 3 times but never received the red oring so I gave up. The last order your agent told me she was going to attach a note for the handler to check for it before shipping but it didn't do any good, your agents are good but I can't say the same for your quality control.
