    Didn't fit black and decker
They are great sturdy parts. Unfortunately they are the wrong size to fit the old black and decker sander I have. Any help would be appreciated

Platen clip mountings broken, original power cord losing its outer rubber cover

    Raymond - March 10, 2018
    Tool Type

    Sander

    Difficulty

    Easy

    Time

    15-30 minutes

    Tools Used

Screwdriver, Pliers, Vacuum cleaner, stiff bristle brush, soldering iron

    PLATEN:
    1. Used a screwdriver to remove the platen
    2. Cleaned the area under the platen with a stiff bristle brush and a vacuum.
    3. Slipped the new clip into the plastic mountings on the new platen, reattached the platen to the sander with the original mounting screws
    NEW POWER CORD:
    1. Removed the three screws holding the cover on the sander and removed the cover.
    2. Carefully noted the route of the original black and white power cord wires
    3. Removed the two screws holding the retaining bar on the original power cord
    4. Using needle nose pliers I carefully and gently removed the original power cord white neutral wire and brass connector from its location, and then removed the original power cord black wire and connector from its location on the back of the power switch
    5. I then removed the original power cord.
    6. Using a sharp punch and needle nose pliers I then very carefully removed the brass electrical connectors from the original power cord wires
    7. I then cleaned the interior of the sander and the underside of the sander cover with a stiff bristle brush and a vacuum.
    8. I then cut and stripped the power cord wires on the new cord to the same lengths as the original cord.
    9. . I then very carefully reattached the original brass connectors to the black and white wires of the new cord, and soldered the wires to the connectors. (note the original connections were crimped, but since I reused the same connectors it seemed simple and prudent to solder them to the wires)
    10. I then slid the 4" rubber sleeve over the end of the power cord and installed the new power cord being sure that the white and black wires followed the same path from the base of the power cord to their connection on the motor and switch respectively.
    11. I then reattached the retention bar on the power cord using the original two screws.
    12. I then reattached the cover of the sander to the base of the case taking care to ensure that the power switch was in its proper notch.
NOTE: These were both simple repairs to extend the useful life of this very old 1/4 sheet Dewalt Sander. Thanks to EREPLACEMENT PARTS.COM FOR MAKING THESE REPAIR PARTS AVAILABLE.
