    Came in a hurry.
Sander went down in the middle of sanding boat for fiberglass/epoxy coat. Stalled production as backup sander was at son’s cabin for other work. Four days later I was back up and sanding. Great service!

I removed screws from sander housing and handle, separated and lifted the screw side of housing to expose the carbon brushes. Since the original brush holders had removable and reusable electrical wire connections, I removed the old brushes and tension springs and replaced them with the new brushes and springs. By reusing the original brush holders, I did not have to cut an wires, do any splicing, or do any soldering. The new brushes and springs fit perfectly in the original holders. I reassembled the sander housing while carefully ensuring the brushes and all electrical wires remained in place. I replaced and carefully tightened all the housing screws.

The jig saw was gradually slowing down and sparking at the brushes. Eventually it came to a total halt.Upon inspection both original brushes were worn completely down.

The saw case comes apart by removing several screws and removing one half of the case. Then the brushes can be lifted out and the wires detached using a pair of needle noses pliers. Reinsert the new brushes , perfect match, and reassemble the case. Back in business!

    Bosch Sander Wouldn't Start

    M. - October 3, 2019

    Difficulty

    Medium

    Time

    30-60 minutes

    Tools Used

    Screwdriver, Power Drill

Being novices at tool repairs, the hardest part of the repair was getting the sander apart completely and the wires to the brush arms were in a very tight space, getting them back in place after putting the new brush arms in so the sander would close took the most time. Taking pictures while taking the sander apart would have helped us reassemble after the repair and saved a lot of time.
The switch was the easiest part of the repair. The dust cover on the switch was worn off completely and that may be what the problem was, dust got in the switch.
We also use compressed air in a can to clean all the wood dust out which had accumulated over 8 years! The parts were good and effective and the sander runs powerfully again and really collects the wood dust. Ereplacementparts has helped us to do our own repairs and be able to use our tools a lot longer.
