This is a genuine Toro part to be used in walk-behind lawn mowers. The cable-brake attaches to the handle control and engages or disengages the mower blade. It may become detached or broken and can be replaced with this authentic part. If the cable is damaged the blade will not rotate and the mower will not be operational. It is priced as an individual part and is made of high-quality metal with a rubber casing. Multiple tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, and wrenches, may be needed for installing this part. Refer to the specific owner's manual diagrams of your model to perform this repair.

Flipped mower on side (with gas tank on top) - this keeps gas from leaking out.
Remove mower blade, a bracket, a cover, which all comes loose when blade is removed (3 nuts I believe).
Remove belt drive and brake mechanism cover to get access to cable end (two bolts on top of mower deck). This cover is bolted on back end (near rear end of mower, and the front end is held by tabs that are fitted into center opening of mower deck. So, to remove, once bolts are removed, pry, pull, on back end of cover to remove not the front end.
Underneath the mower deck is a plastic mounting bracket that the cable feeds through. It must be removed (one screw). You might have to remove plastic grass chute which is used with bragger (2-3 bolts) for easier access.
Carefully (with a screwdriver), pry out the damaged cable from bracket. (Note: where the bracket is located on old cable - in other words, how far is the bracket located from the bottom end of cable).
Pry out rubber seal that is located on mower deck and where the cable feeds through.
Unhook damaged cable at both ends and remove from mower.
Feed the new cable rough mower deck and reseat the rubber seal (which comes already on new cable).
Insert cable into plastic mounting bracket taking note that it should be located in the place as it was on old cable.
Re- attach cable on blade brake mechanism. (Make sure cable is fed correctly and not twisted or bent around something.
Re- attach mounting block/bracket.
Feed and re-connect cable at top end on handle.
TEST to make sure everything appears to work correctly.
Re-attack belt cover (Note: this cover has tabs on end - where mower blade is bolted on that must be seated first, then push the back end of cover in place. You will have to adjust cover until bolt holes line up. Put bolts in and tighten.
Re- attach cover, bracket, and blade on mower.
Flip mower over, start, and test.
