Saw would not start.
1. Removed the brush holder to find a section of the brass burned away.
2. Replaced with two new holders.
3. Saw started fine, but brake was not working.

After attempting the Dewalt suggested remedies, short of replacing the armature and or field winding, I rechecked both holders. Found one of the brass spade lugs, on one of the holders, had passed by, instead of into the receiving connector. This particular lug was part of the brake circuit, had it been the other lug, the saw would not have started at all. Make sure the two lugs on each holder are lined up and watch that both mate properly with the field connections. The saw is now working like new.

Once I determined the problem on my Miter saw, the repair was straight forward.. I thought is was the switch, but it ws a brush holder.
Thanks for your patience in sending and replaceng the switches .Removed both brush holders and replaced them as well as the brushes..
I also replaced the switch since I had disposed of the old one.

10-year old motor did not start. Lignum film buildup on brush holder metal acted as infinite insulator.
1. Removed drive from saw and and tested continuity of each coil through the brush holder. One coil tested as open.
2. Could not find the part available so continued looking at motor repair videos and ran across the one on lignum buildup. Lignum vaporizes out of wood dust on the hot brushes and condenses on them when they cool. It is a great electrical insulator.
3. Removed coil assembly from motor casing and unplugged brush holder, Both coils tested fine at about 0.7 ohms. I had to scrape and scrape the point of my meter probe against the inside of the brush holder to get a reading. The lignum is clear (not visible). Ordered holders and brushes.
4. Used emery paper on commutator (just in case) and reassembled motor with new brush holders and brushes. Now it is running for another 10 years for under $40 instead of $500 replacement.
