I've narrowed down my no-start engine problem to carbeurator as I put gas in carb and it started. I removed the plastic carb from engine only to notice a switch at the bottom of the float bowl. What is this switch and could that stop me from having spark?
Not sure but It sounds like a fuel shut off solinoid. Sorry for the spelling. When the engine is shut off power is turned off to it and it closes. Some times they will stick closed and you have a no start because no fuel will flow through the jet in the carb.
I have a 17.5 H.P. Briggs and Stratton engine on a lawn tractor, after thirty minutes it shuts down. I have changed the magneto. What else would cause this problem?
Thanks; Phillip
I had the same problem. Here is what worked for me.
Replaced the fuel solenoid and check the ground wire for it. I also replaced the float and needle valve. However I really think it was the solenoid and/or the ground. Once I got the Carb off, I had easy access to the ground wire bolt/screw and found it to be finger tight.
Anyway, the old mower is up and running like a champ.
