Dead - no lights, no pump or heater function etc.
Most electrical symptoms would be fixed with this component which contains not only the PCB, but all front panel switches and LED\'s. The replacement was not too hard once the dismantling is sorted out and the repair was less than 20% the price of replacing the machine. There are some guides available if you Google it. Basically it proceeds as follows (all screws are small phillips):
1. Remove all of the accessories (trays, water bin etc.)
2. Remove 2 screws at the rear base of the unit and pull the back panel up and off.
3. Remove 2 screws at the bottom of the 2 grey plastic cones on either side of the brew head. Then slide the top (warming plate) toward the rear releasing the 2 dogs, and remove it.
4. Remove 4 screws from the gray plastic cover on the left (viewed from front) inner wall.Gently coax this cover free, which exposed the PCB.
5. The PCB with it\'s clear case are now accessible and unfastened with 2 more screws.
6. Now you need to decide how much you wish to replace. If you are confident that the front panel switched are ok, they may be unplugged from the PCB and the originals left in place. (In my case I chose to replace them, but discovered the mounting of the double one was not identical and eventually reinstalled the original one.) There are LED wires which do not readily detach from the PCB but can be easily swapped out. Care needs to be taken to reliably transfer the main 5 or 6 power wires which attach to spade lugs on the board. Unless you switch the switches, you can reverse previous steps and reassemble.
7. To change the switches, the heater pot needs to be unfastened, but not removed. This involves removal of 4 screws around the brew head, and the knob. This latter part is a bit tricky, as it is held on by a grey plastic tab which must be compressed by a tool such as a flat blade screwdriver before applying traction to the knob. If you can\'t get it, search for those online instructions as they have helpful photos.
8. What to do now is obvious. With the heater pot loosened, use a long phillips to remove the screws from the ears on the switch housings. There is also one screw fastening the micro-switch next to the shaft controlled by the knob. Replace those components and proceed with reassembly.
9. A few Tips-- Be careful not to trap wires on re attaching the heating pot. Some gentle prying was needed to reposition the gray cover over the PCB so that the screw holes could be aligned properly. Also don\'t for get (as I did) to slide the strain reliever up the cord and in its proper place before replacing the back panel. Overall, not to bad.

Question: 800ESXL

1215453

I have a problem with my 800ESXL, the pump fails during brewing. White LEDs blink Dim/Bright and it goes nowhere. I can sometime resume the brewing by turning it off/on.

While removing the PCB Assembly, I broke a front switch (attached to the main PCB). Is the switch coming with the pcb assembly? This is the one I see on the picture of this part (800ESXL/232).

Thanks!

My machine will not turn on when I push the button. Per the internet, the problem is the Zener Diode ZD-6. I bought the diode shown in the parts list, but it looks like it is D6. I think the solution is to buy the entire circuit board, but I do not see it in your parts list. Where can I get one?

The best solution is to replace the Main PCB Assembly #800ESXL/232. Replacing the whole board should fix your problem.

When I turn on the machine, it just sits there doing nothing. The pump is shot, I think, and I'm not sure how to replace it, any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hello 704860,

Sometimes this type of a repair can get rather involved. You might try taking your machine to a local Breville Authorized Service Center.

Hope this helps,

It appears that the silicone washer may be the cause of the leaks at the swivel on my machine. This part is shown as discontinued. is there an equivalent part or must I replace the entire wand assembly?

Are there instructions for replacement of the seal and/or the wand?
The machine will not put out any steam, just little drops of water although you can hear the pump running. Also, it will put out very hot water but after a few seconds the hot water is not hot anymore, just warm. Is the problem electronic, thermostats? It appears the water heater and pump are working, but there seems to not be continuous heat for hot water or 'extra hot' heat needed for steam. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, my machine doesn't heat up anymore. Did you make the repairs on your machine?
Is it new or used? If used, any guaranty it will work. Is there a Warranty from manufactuer?

When I make coffee - the machine starts to smoke like it is starting to short out with a burning smell. Before I take the machine apart - could the problem be the thermal block?
My frother feels very loose and leaks, do I need to change the whole assembly or just a seal?

Question: Steam Function

kpitcher

My machine does not want to create steam. If I shut it off and turn it back on a couple of times it might produce steam. Otherwise it is pumping hot water in the steam position. What do I need to replace to make my machine work properly again?
I hope someone could help me! The moment I turn on the machine there is water running out of the Diffuser (part #124) I believe that this part is connected to the Thermal Block Assembly (Part #251) I have a few options, or the Thermal Block has past away, or a whole in the diffuser so the pressure is dropped and water leaks. Anyway, suggestions ideas are more then welcome. Greets Coffee Gwen A.K.A

I am trying to disassemble to get at the Thermoblock. I have removed plastic sleeve screws under the brew head, and the brewhead housing screws, and the bottom of unit screws and removed the drip pan. The dang thing doesn't want to open up. I can't see what I am missing. Any ideas?

Remove both part #105 Top Connectors with a screwdriver. Use a soft hammer to tap the top cover toward the front of the machine about 1/4 inch. The top cover should lift straight up.

WJA

Hello jnorris5151,

The manufacture has not replaced the old part number with a new one. Your best bet would be to locate a local nut & bolt store in your area that will be able to sell you a 4mm x 10mm screw that would work in your espresso machine.

Good luck,

Probably the Water Valve assembly its plastic and easily cracks if you changes the seals already the valve is probably cracked.

While making an espresso, for no apparent reason, the pump stopped pumping coffee. It still had water in water tank. Do I have to change the pump or is there a protection mechanism that prevents the pump from breaking? My email is link removed.

Hello

Hello

You need to physically take apart the machine and see if the pump is working. If it is sucking and nothing comes out of it, then the pump mechanism is the problem. The tube is see through when you take it apart so you should be able to tell if it's being pushed out.
