Product Description ?

This brake ring is an authentic manufacturer replacement part used in sanders. It is a circular ring measuring approximately 3.5 inches in diameter. The brake ring is responsible for controlling the spinning motion of the sanding disc/sanding pad during use. When the sander is off, the brake ring engages with the disc to gradually slow it down and stop it. This reduces the risk of potential damage or injury from the disc abruptly stopping. Over time the brake ring can break or wear down causing the disc to spin too fast or continue spinning when the equipment is switched off. To access the faulty brake ring, you will need to first detach the sanding pad. Depending on your model, you may need to open the rotor case as well. Next, lift the brake ring off the sander and discard it. Clean the mounting area to remove any sawdust and debris. Attach the new brake ring and align the sanding disc with the mounting holes before securing it with the mounting screw.

Split the sander apart by removing the screws, made a minor modification to the switch by drilling two holes in the bottom to accommodate the wires (the switch received was for a newer model with different attachment points) which were not long enough to attach to the switch. Installed the switch and reassembled the sander with the new brake.

After first trying the bushings to no avail I replaced the bearing which I failed to notice was seized up. The new bearing did the trick. Runs like a new sander. The screws stripped during disassembly so I replaced them and I threw in a new brake whether needed or not since I've used this sander heavily for the past 18 - 19 years.

sanding pad was held in place by four philips head screws. After removing them, the broken brake pad was removed by lifting it off the sander. Use a small brush to remove excess sawdust and wipe clean. New brake was installed and the sanding pad was reinstalled. Very easy to do. It was obvious what the problem was once the sanding pad was removed as it was in two pieces where it should have been one piece. The diagram on ereplacement parts made the part easy to find and order. Takes 5 minutes to diagnose problem, and another 5 to repair.

I removed the sandpaper. Next I removed the three screws holding the sanding pad in place. Next I removed the worn out break. The break unit is flexible and easily removed. The next step was to tuck the new break ring under the retaining lip. Finally, all that was left was to reinstall the pad. Sander works great again.

    1. I removed the hard pad the sanding discs stick to.
    2. Removed the broken brake ring and cleaned the surfaces with a Scotchbrite pad.
    3. Put the new brake ring in place and screwed the hard pad back on.
    4. Other than aligning the holes for the screws on the reinstall, it was an easy fix.
