Appliance Repair Tips for KitchenAid Mixer Parts and Attachments

Posted by on October 11, 2010    |    Leave a reply

Homeowners need access to two important resources to make their at-home appliance repairs possible.

First, they need an accurate, dependable parts ordering service for their tools, appliances, and machines. Then, after their parts arrive, they need the right professional repair information to guide their work.

With the launch of small appliance parts on our site, the eReplacementParts.com appliance repair team has been hard at work to pass along essential insider repair techniques to homeowners, starting with KitchenAid mixers.

KitchenAid stand mixers offer good examples of repairs that can be done at home to save money, because many KitchenAid mixer parts are expected to wear and require replacement down the road.

Here are some professional KitchenAid stand mixer repair tips straight from the eReplacementParts.com Appliance Repair Center!

When a KitchenAid Mixer Isn’t Spinning

A planetary that isn’t spinning is a common breakdown for KitchenAid mixers, but it rarely means the end of your valuable appliance.

Most of the time, a mixer’s planetary will stop spinning because one of its gears has failed inside the gearbox, and the worm gear is usually the one responsible.

KitchenAid Worm Gear Repair

Luckily, taking apart a KitchenAid mixer to replace one of its gears is a repair that homeowners can easily manage, even though it can take a little time. The mess can be a little fun, actually, and the money saved at the shop is definitely worth it.

Removing a KitchenAid Planetary

Read our “How to Fix a KitchenAid Mixer That Isn’t Spinning” article to get the full scoop on this repair. The article describes detailed, step-by-step instructions for how to disassemble a KitchenAid stand mixer, how to replace a KitchenAid mixer worm gear, and how to reassemble the machine.

KitchenAid Stand Mixer Grease

The gearbox on a KitchenAid mixer is filled with grease. Over time and use, the grease in the gearbox can leak or go bad for a number of reasons.

In the case of a leaking KitchenAid mixer, opening up the machine and replacing the old grease with new grease is usually the best way to fix the problem.

Replacing the mixer’s transmission gasket is sometimes necessary to fix the leak.

Look to the eReplacementParts.com articles section in the coming weeks for repair articles and video demonstrations on how to repair a leaking KitchenAid stand mixer!

KitchenAid Mixer Speed Adjustment

A KitchenAid mixer’s speed control can sometimes come out of adjustment.

Fixing this problem requires removing the back housing of the mixer to expose the electrical components that control the mixer’s motor, then, several screws on the mixer’s control board have to be carefully adjusted.

This repair requires the use of a special calibrating tool provided to repair centers. Our Appliance Repair Center gave us a look at how the adjustment is done with the spinning calibration wheel.

When the KitchenAid Beater Hits the Mixer Bowl

Ever turned your stand mixer on just to hear the beater clank against the bowl?

Well, aside from being loud, the spinning beater making contact with the metal bowl actually causes unnecessary wear to that valuable KitchenAid attachment.

When it’s time to replace a KitchenAid attachment for “natural causes,” we hope you visit eReplacementParts.com to get the beaters and other mixer attachments you need.

In the meantime, eReplacementParts.com wants you to get the most out of your appliance and its attachments, so our appliance repair team has put together this handy article on How to Adjust the Beater on a KitchenAid Stand Mixer.

You can also watch the article’s demonstration video below!

Special thanks to Teri, AJ, Josh, and Gordon at the Appliance Service Center–the newest eReplace office–for their expert help on these repairs!

Start your KitchenAid stand mixer repair by typing your mixer’s model number in any eReplacementParts.com search field. KitchenAid attachments and parts are available to order on your machine’s parts page.

Find Tool Parts with Individual Breakdown Pages

Posted by on May 3, 2010    |    Leave a reply

We’ve added a new filtering feature to our site to help customers find parts faster!

Using breakdown schematics is often the best way for clients to find the products they need. Schematics let customers get a good look at each part of a tool or machine, and each tool parts page has a schematic for its tool.

eReplacementParts.com Logo

As tools and machines become more complicated, their breakdown diagrams must include two or more pages in order to display all of their parts, and the parts lists for complicated tools can become very long.

Now customers can shorten those long parts lists using a tool’s breakdown schematic. If a tool has more than one page in its breakdown diagram, just click on the breakdown page that has the part you need and the the tool’s parts page will automatically refresh to display only the parts on that breakdown page.

For example, it takes a lot of machine parts to build something like a Briggs & Stratton generator, so most generators will have more than one breakdown page.

This Briggs & Stratton 5,000 Watt PowerBoss Portable Generator has four breakdown pages:

Multiple Breakdown Pages

As can be seen above, Page A of this generator’s parts page is currently selected and displayed, meaning that only the parts from Page A of the breakdown are listed in the parts list underneath the diagram (pictured below):

Parts Page A

When you navigate to your tool’s parts page, the page will default to show the first page of the breakdown schematic and its parts.

Clicking a different diagram page will put that page on display, and it will also refresh the parts list to only show parts that appear on the selected breakdown page (shown below).

Breakdown Page C

Parts Page C

In addition, each parts list includes two “Show All Parts” buttons at the top and bottom of the parts list. Obviously, clicking this button will display all parts for that tool or machine.

Whether it’s a lawn tractor, generator, lawn mower, or snowblower, customers can now find parts even faster with this new search filtering feature from eReplacementParts.com

New Tool Parts Search Feature

Posted by on April 6, 2010    |    Leave a reply

Searching for tool parts is easy at eReplacementParts.com. Entering an full model number or part number in our website's search field will take customers directly to that tool's parts page or the specific part being searched for.

For example, if a customer searches "TW1000" in the Model Search field, the search will take the customer directly to the parts page for the Makita TW1000 Impact Wrench, the only tool with a matching model number.

Makita TW1000 Search

Customers can also be taken to results pages that display more than one result for a couple of reasons.

  • Sometimes different tools (even between different manufacturers) have the same model number.
  • Sometimes customers only have part of their tool's model number or only some of the part number for the search.

Parts and tool models from many manufacturers can display in cases like these where more than one match, or many partial matches, are offered. Because of our expanding inventory, multi-result searches like these can sometimes display hundreds of matches that must be sorted.

We've recently added a new search filtering feature that helps customers quickly find the tool or part they're looking for when multiple results are displayed.

Now, customers can narrow their search further (by manufacturer) whenever more than one result displays for their tool model or part number search.

Narrow by ManufacturerManufacturerManufacturer

So if you're not able to get your tool's exact model number but happen to know part of it (or some similar situation), don't worry or hesitate for a second!

Just search with the part of the number you have, and then use the manufacturer dropdown list on the next page to narrow the search further.

In the case of a parts number search that produces more than one result, narrowing the search by manufacturer will make the page display only the parts that are compatible in tools from that manufacturer.

By continuing to streamline website features. we bring our customers the fastest, most accurate online tool and machine parts service possible.

A New Year’s Resolution: Power Tools and Parts

Posted by on December 28, 2009    |    Leave a reply

2009 has been a big year for the power tool industry. No matter what the state of the global economy, the need for power tools and machines continues to increase world-wide, and the industry continues to reinvent itself and its products to serve customers in changing circumstances.

Tool trade shows like the STAFDA convention (Specialty Tools and Fasteners Distributors Association) are the hottest front-line venues where tool and machine manufacturers show off their latest gadgets and newest improvements.

STAFDA LogoIn the interest of appealing to money-saving durability, JET introduced a new line of “Unbreakable Handle” hammers this year.

JET Unbreakable Hammer

With a well-known reputation for producing some of the toughest shop tools and equipment around, JET also meets these expectations in their line of hand tools by fully guaranteeing these hammers’ tempered steel handles.

Makita also rattled the power tool industry this year by making one of its most specialized tool design features available in more models.

Makita Rotary HammerMany smaller Makita rotary hammer models now benefit from the manufacturer’s unique sequential hit technology that was previously available only in larger hammers. With precisely timed bit rotation and piston striking, Makita sets a standard for fast, energy efficient drilling.

Some innovations by manufacturers have gotten really high tech this year too. One example is Bosch’s eyebrow-raising advances in laser level technology.

Bosch Dual Plane Laser Level

Their new dual plane laser levels (like the one pictured above) lack the typical spinning laser heads that would normally rotate to make a horizontal plane of light. Instead, they simply shine the light at a specially shaped reflective cone that scatters it into a two dimensional plane without moving parts, drawing a sharp line of creativity for their competition.

We at eReplacementParts.com have also been busy this year meeting the needs of the growing replacement tool and machine parts industry. After all, an expanding power tool industry means more parts for those tools and machines.

2009 has come with the addition of parts from over 20 brand name manufacturers to our inventory, including Briggs and Stratton, MTD, Campbell Hausfeld, Bolens, and Murray.

eReplacementParts.com has also seen several innovations to the website this year, including discussion features, customer product reviews, repair questions, and the most user-friendly search features and service around.

The approaching New Year makes this season more than one of reflection on the past, because new resolutions and commitments to the future also come with the calendar change.

Our valued customers can look forward to the same eReplacementParts commitment to service this year as any year. Keep an eye out for more parts availability from more top-of-the-line manufacturers, more customer-minded website features, and more of the same quality parts replacement service keeping those tools in great shape from year…to year.
