Bandsaw Tire Replacement
Posted on | September 25, 2009 | No Comments
When installing a new bandsaw tire, it is very common to run into problems at first. New bandsaw tires often appear to be too small, because bandsaw tires are very stiff when they are new.

Before beginning your repair, it's best to double check that the tire you have purchased is the correct part for your bandsaw model, remembering that it is normal for new tires to seem too small at first.
Before installing the new bandsaw tire, try to stretch the tire as much as possible. If stretching does not make it flexible enough to install, give the following steps a try:
1. Boil enough water to submerge the tire completely.
2. Place the tire in boiling water and let it sit for three minutes.
3. Remove tire from water and place it on a towel (wear gloves to protect your hands while handling the hot tire).
4. Quickly dry the tire and proceed to install it while it is still warm.
It is important to install the tire before it cools because it will harden again quickly.
If the tire is still not flexible enough, boiling it for longer than three minutes might be the right fix.
Even when heating the tire like this is successful, it still may take some effort to install it on the saw, so be prepared to use some elbow grease.
