I bought a reciprocating saw and didn't realize it was broken. Thankfully I found ereplacementparts.com. My parts only cost 40 dollars to fix it and it is like new. Shipping was quick and the parts were perfect.

Blade clamp collar broke into pieces

    Reciprocating Saw

    Easy

    Time

    Less than 15 minutes

    Tools Used

    Screwdriver, Pliers, allen wrench

Because of the breakage, I was left with just pieces of the parts. I wasn't sure what went together or where it went. The diagram on site made it a snap. Only suggestion is that if your part uses a spring, get a new one. The old one has stretched, even if you can't see it.

    Blade clamp failed.

    Brett - September 7, 2021
    Tool Type

    Reciprocating Saw

    Difficulty

    Hard

    Time

    30-60 minutes

    Tools Used

Screwdriver, Pliers, Power Drill, T20 T25 driver bits. Pick set.

After reading through a couple of tutorials I found online, none of which applied exactly to my saw, I dove in.

Took the shoe off with a T20 bit.
Pulled the rubber boot with the yellow blade lock lever off.
Used a screwdriver to pop the spring off. It fell inside and no amount of prying would get it around the blade clamp collar, so I had to pull that.
Used pliers to pull the clamp pin.
Used the pliers & screwdriver to pry the blade clamp off the drive shaft. It should come off reasonably easily, but mine was caked with years of sawdust & grease. I gave it a good cleaning with Q-tips and toothpicks.
Juggling the blade clamp collar, and the spring in an attempt to put them back on at the same time (each end of the spring goes into a hole in the collar) proved quite futile. I ended up dropping the spring over the shaft, got the clamp on and pushed the pin in place to hold it.
Using a combination of needle nose pliers and picks, I was finally able to get the spring ends to drop into the appropriate holes in the clamp collar.

None of the work was "hard", but it was exceedingly frustrating. The worst part was getting the spring back into place after I had replaced it.

Once I got everything back in place, it holds the blade rock solid. I hope this one lasts another 3-4 years or more as the original spring did. If it doesn't I might just chuck the saw (I had to buy a new one because I needed it for the job where the blade kept falling out) and use only the replacement. That's just how frustrating it was.

A good video with some tips and tricks on how to get this spring in place would be most helpful.
