I had a burnt up armature the windings were burnt. It had started sparking and smoking while I was using it last. Then was dead. It was about ten years old at least.

    Ryan - May 22, 2016
    Tool Type

    Circular Saw

    Difficulty

    Medium

    Time

    1-2 hours

    Tools Used

Screwdriver, Socket set, Nutdriver, Adjustable Wrench

First I got my tools together along with a parts diagram from the 1677md Bosch worm drive. I set up and had enough room to lay out my tools and the parts after disassembled without loosing track where they were supposed to go when I put it back together. I removed the four bolts that held the handle to the housing. Then pulled it apart. I then had to figure out how to remove the armature. I have never done any real tool repair. So then loosened the plastic cap on the front of the saw with an adjustable wrench and started to remove all the oil. After removing the large plastic cap on the front of the saw inside I found a nut that held the end of the armature axis in place. I untightened and removed it. I then had to put the nut back on the threads partially so that I could start tapping on it to loosen the armature and work it through. Then loosened the nut and the armature came loose and was free. I still had to figure out how to remove the bearing ring from the other end of the armature(the end with the fan). So then I put it in a vice and used a lever(aka screwdrivers) to pop it off. Then I pounded it on the new armature and set the new armature into place where the old one was. Pounding it slightly with a small balpeen hammer. Then tightened the nut that I put on the threads on the front of the armature axis inside where the large plastic cap was. Then replaced the cap and tightened. At this time I opened where you replace the oil and filled to where oil filled line was. I also replaced the brushes on both sides along with new lever asemblies for adjustment on both bevel and depth as mine were bent up and missing the front one from abuse and rough use. I then plugged a cord into the back of my saw and pulled the trigger. Amazingly everything went perfect. I havent ever done any real repair but I love my discontinued model. I will be doing many tool and part replacments and keep tools in better shape now. Saw is like brand new now and I'm happy as hell. No instructions just a diagram. If I can do it, anybody can with patience.
