Question: MS500 Sander Screw

imagranna

Will a screw for the MS500 Type 1or2 fit the MS500? Why would they make them "obsolete" or a different size than the next model? I could probably get a replacement at the hardware store if I knew the correct dimensions of the screw.
Please help!

You have a couple options for replacing the hook & loop pads on those Black and Decker Mouse sanders. First, you can peel off the old pad from the sander base, clean the base completely, and stick on a new pad. New sticky pads are available from eReplacementParts.com here:

Pad [577044-01] - $1.52 at eReplacementParts.com

Your other option is to buy a complete Mouse sander base, with has the pad already installed. It costs a little more (about $5) but it's a bit easier to install. Here's a link to the complete base with the pad installed:

Base Plate [577047-03] - $4.59 at eReplacementParts.com

I hope this helps!

I have the same trouble. After removing the one screw the plate still won't come off. Don't want to break it and add to the problem.

Question: Sticky Base Plate

George

My sticky base pad is no loner sticky. I see your answer from another customer but your replacement part has two holes in it my base plate has only one screw hole. Can I still user the one you recommended to the other customer or what is the right one for me.

Thanks

I have a model MS 500 B&D palm sander. I need to replace the sticky base plate. It no longer holds the sandpaper. It has only one screw, which I removed, but I cannot get the pad or vibrating plate off. How do you separate the plate from the machine?

Question: Motor

Adam Blackwell

The motor on my mouse works for a few minutes and makes a scratching sound and then won't run it just vibrates like it is stuck. I don't know if it needs new brushes or I need to get a new one.

Hi Adam,

It sounds like a seized bearing to me. Unfortunately Black & Decker does not offer any of the internal parts for this sander. I think you will need to replace the sander.

Thanks!

My Mouse Sander was doing the same thing so I took it apart to replace the brushes and guess what? It has one of those sealed motors from a supplier that does not have replaceable brushes. I'd think about replacing the motor, but how could I ever find one? It looks as if the eccentric weight is permanently attached to the shaft anyway. I know these things are inexpensive, but perhaps this type of manufacturing is the reason they are inexpensive and end up in a landfill before they begin to wear out. Feeling pretty grumpy here . . .

You need a motor. It is a sealed unit and you cannot replace the brushes. It is not made for you to open it. $38.00

Question: Sticky Base Pad

Doug

By "Sticky Base" pad that I would attach the Hook Pad to has become slick and wont hold the Hooking Pad. Is there a replacement pad for that pad or is there something i can do to it to recondition it for use?

Thanks

Hi Doug,

Item #9 on the parts diagram is a replacement hook & loop pad for your sander. It has self adhesive glue on one side. You will need to strip and clean the old pad off of the plastic base on your sander. Make sure it is very clean. Then you can stick the new pad on. For the small difference in price you might want to purchase item #4, the base plate. It is a new plastic base with a hook & loop pad already installed.

The Hook & Loop pad is part #577044-01 and the Base plate is part #577047-03. Both parts are available from http://ereplacementparts.com.

Good luck with your repair!
