Question: Battery Replacement

AMG

Can anyone recommend a dustbuster equivalent to the quality of the Black & Decker, but does not require an expensive battery replacement?

Question: Charger

Charger light is not on and the unit not charging. Is the problem the battery or charger unit?

Question: Dustbuster

I have two chv1400 dustbusters. The charging light on both units does not light up when on charger. Is it the battery or the charger? The units are about 4 yrs old.

I have an identical problem with a 14.4 and a 15.6. I purchased new charging stations / transformer for both of them. When I plugged them in, the charging lights went on, the transformers became warm, and the unit batteries took a very brief charge. Then the charging lights went out on both units and the charging stand/transformer ceased to operate. It cost $29 for the parts and it apparently did not correct the problem.
According to your diagram, there are two screws at the back, underside of the unit. I have removed them but still am unable to remove the green cover to expose the battery. Is there a trick to this? Thanks for your response.

There are 2 tabs located in the compartment for the brush attachment. They must be pushed toward the handle end of the vac. It is tricky to do unless you have a second set of hands to pull the 2 parts apart while the tabs are being pushed on. Good luck!

I have found you can buy a new dustbuster 14.4v as cheap as you can buy the replacement battery. After you get the green cover off...getting the battery out is still quite an ordeal. No way it comes out just by pressing like the owners manual says. I finally got it out, but I am not sure I could ever get a new one back in. It is necessary to loosen the three screws that hold the two haves of the dustbuster together. Think I will just buy a new vac.

The cheapest battery I found is on this website - ereplacementparts.com. I have ordered from them before and have been pleased. I have decided its cheaper to buy a new 18V dustbuster. Because of the expense of the battery, I may buy a different brand of dustbuster.

Question: Suction

John

My unit does not have good suction. I cleaned the filter but the unit does not perform any better

link removed has the batteries cheaper. If you remove the screws from the white housing and separate it the battery comes out more easily. I have done two dustbusters already and I'm a girl. Prefer to keep things out of landfill. Works great.
