We've got a great article dealing with this question. Your saw should behave differently depending on whether it's a brush problem or a switch problem, and it shows you how to figure out which one it is.

Since your saw is starting up intermittently it could be either one, but there are some details you can look at to identify the problem. Does the saw run just fine once you manage to get it started? Do you hear any banging sounds coming from the motor while it is running?

You can secure the blade and keep it from rotating by lowering it down onto a piece of scrap wood. Now you can use a wrench to remove the blade nut, item #40 on the parts diagram. The blade can now be removed from the arbor and changed.

don't know if you still need this switch or not. i needed one and like you could not find one since the manufacturer had gone out of business. i did find a similar switch from that manufacturer (Lucerne) that was made for a hand power drill. it needed to be modified since it had a additional piece on it for the "hold on" operation of the drill which was pretty easy.

it took me less than a half hour to modify the switch and put it all back together...

my point is that i bought 5 of these switches from the seller and was thinking of putting them on ebay if i could find any interest or just sell them outright for a fair price.
