Assembly Oil Pump - 581063901
Repair Difficulty:
Medium
Time Spent Repairing:
30-60 minutes
Tools Used:
Screwdriver, Socket set, Nutdriver, vice grips to remove clutch
Chain quit oiling and was locking up.
Removed recoil cover to check for oil line blockage. Realized it had an oil pump. Removed spark plug and inserted a bolt that would just slide into the plug hole. Clamped vice grips to the clutch nut. Used screwdriver through clamped vice grips to unscrew the clutch while the bolt kept the piston from turning the crankshaft. Mine came loose fairly easy. REALIZE THIS! Excessive force can cause internal damage to the engine, so be cautious. My old pump had strings of bark and grass to lock it up. Reassembled in reverse order and it worked great. I did not have to replace the steel drive gear but it may be necessary on others.
