1. Remove the blade
Use a socket to remove the blade from the saw.
2. Remove the depth adjustment knob
Unscrew the depth adjustment knob from the saw and set it aside.
3. Remove the guard linkage screw
Lower the head of the saw down and lock it in place to gain access to the linkage screw.
Remove the linkage screw from the saw.
4. Remove the screws securing the pivot pin
Use a phillips-head screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the pivot pin.
5. Hammer the pivot pin out of the saw
Use a punch and hammer to push the pivot pin nearly all the way out of the saw.
6. Pull the old spring out of the saw
With the pivot pin out of the way, you can pull the old spring off of the saw.
1. Install the bushings and flange into the spring
Place the bushings into the center of the new spring so the flanges are touching.
2. Install the new spring
Install the new spring assembly into the the housing 'pocket'.
3. Hammer the pivot pin back into the saw
Using a flashlight, carefully align the pivot pin with the center of the spring.
Then use the punch and hammer to reinstall the pivot pin into the saw head.
4. Tighten the screws securing the pivot pin
Lower the saw head down and lock it in place. Then reinstall the two screws that secure the pivot pin.
5. Reinstall the guard linkage screw
Reinstall the linkage screw, washer, and spacer back to their original location.
6. Reinstall the depth adjustment knob
Screw the depth adjustment knob back onto the saw.
7. Reinstall the blade
Reinstall the blade using the flange and nut.
Then replace the guard piece.
