Brushes in every type of power tool are some of the fastest parts to wear. Learning to replace the brushes in your tools can save a lot of time and money compared to a repair shop, and will keep your tools running like new.
For this repair, we used a Porter cable 7518/7519 router. Different routers have different brush configurations, but most brush replacements will be very similar. Remove the four screws that secure the cover. Then remove the cover and set it aside.
2. Remove the brushes
Remove the screw that secures the brush wire to the router.

Use your needle-nose pliers to bull the brush tension spring out of the way.

Now you can remove the brush from the router.

Repeat these steps for the brush on the other side of the router.
3. Install the new brushes
Slide the brush into place in the router.

Move the tension spring back into place on top of the brush.

Connect the brush wire to the router with the screw.

Repeat the installation for the brush on the other side of the router.
4. Replace the top cover
Now just replace the top cover and secure it with the screws to finalize the repair.
