The gas cap gasket forms a seal between the fuel cap and the fuel tank. Because it's made of rubber, the gasket will eventually harden and crack. Fortunately, replacing the gas cap gasket is very easy to do. This article provides step-by-step instructions for removing and installing the fuel tank cap gasket on an Echo trimmer (model SRM-225).

Let's get started.

The Fix   REMOVING THE GAS CAP GASKET [top] 1. Remove the fuel cap from the fuel tank.

Unscrew and remove the fuel cap from the fuel tank.

Remove the gas cap

 

Pull gently on the cap lanyard to remove it from the fuel tank.

  2. Remove the gas cap gasket.

Use a pick to pry the gasket from the inside of the fuel cap.

  INSTALLING THE NEW GAS CAP GASKET [top] 3. Install the gas cap gasket.

Slide the new gasket over the fuel cap lanyard.

Install the new gasket inside the fuel cap.

Press around the edges of the gasket to ensure that it properly seats (above the threads) in the recess at the top of the fuel cap.

Install the cap lanyard into the fuel tank.

Install the fuel cap onto the fuel tank.
