This article will help get you through a cord repair on your Makita 5277B saw. These steps will also work for other saw repairs.

Remember to find the right cord for your saw by visiting our Makita saw parts page. Replacing the Cord

1. Remove the handle side cover

Remove the five screws that secure the handle side cover to gain access to the switch and power cord.

2. Remove the cord clamp

Now you can remove the two screws that hold the cord clamp down.

3. Remove the cord wires

Pull the switch away from the handle assembly. Then note where each of the power cords attaches to it so you can install them later.

Now unscrew the cord wires from the switch.

4. Pull the cord away

Now you can pull the strain relief and wires out of the handle assembly.

5. Inspect the strain relief

Take a moment to inspect the strain relief for cracking or other damage. If it seems worn, you should replace the strain relief too.

6. Install the new cord

Thread the cord wires through your strain relief--using the replacement if needed.

Then set the strain relief back into its holder on the base of the handle.

7. Install the cord clamp

Secure the strain relief and cord by tightening down the cord clamp with the two screws.

8. Re-attach the cord wires

Attach the cord wires to the switch as they were before.

Nestle the switch back into the handle, then route the cord wires into the handle of the saw so they won't get pinched when you attach the cover.

9. Secure the handle cover

Now just replace and secure the handle cover to finalize your repair.
