Question: Dewalt Armature

The teeth on gear on the armature in my Dewalt 705 Type 6 Miter Saw are broken/worn off. The gear case still had plenty of grease in it. Most of which is still the brown color when it is new. Does anyone know why this gear would disintigrate like that? Is it a common problem with that saw? Any help would be appreciated. Thank-you

Hi Logman,
Broken teeth on the armature gear is for the most part caused by overloading the saw.That is caused by not rotating your blades so as to have sharp blades on the saw at all times.As the blade dulls it requires more force to push it through the product.This intern increase the amp load on the saw causing high load points on the gears.The two most important things to remember with any saw is one always use sharp blades and two always keep the motor free of saw dust.Hope this helps.Good luck.

I would say you are right tinkerdave. The blade was found to be dull a couple of times in the past. The gear that drives the blade shows a small amount of wear. If I replace only the armature gear do you think the slightly worn blade gear will eventually trash the new armature gear? My instinct says replace both. Thanks!

Replace the Armature Kit Part Number: 5140021-93 the Spindle and Gear Part Number: 386824-03SV and the Ball Bearing (6202DU) Part Number: 330003-1.The whole DW705 series saws were some of the best Miter saws Dewalt ever built so they are worth putting some money into. Don't forget the Grease Part Number: 93488-00.I hope that helps.Good luck.
